    Report

    by Adrian Lightly

An excellent match on Sunday which in all honesty we were slightly unlucky to lose, as Trafalgar chased down our (20-odd runs shy?) total of 111 with 5 wickets and 3 overs to spare.

Despite losing Rich early, we made a good start (40-1) but a classic middle-order collapse meant Lightly and Kelly were in earlier than they might have wished. That said, a good stand of 33 before Damien holed out to long off and Adrian perished trying to push the run-rate along. Chris and Jason knocked a few more and even with the stoic Territt undefeated at the end, 111 never seemed quite enough.

I thought we bowled and fielded really well without much luck, certainly in the first 10 overs. Paul bamboozled them again with his proper leg spin and an eventual haul of four wickets was just reward for his persistence. Dave eked out another wicket with his slingy swingers (excuse you, madam) but with 40 overs to play with, Trafalgar could afford to bide their time and cantered home with time to spare.

Many thanks to all who came down (including our ever-expanding GRACC supporters club/creche!) and especially to Julian (Mk II) who gave a very creditable account of himself on debut. Bravo!

    Result

GRACC: 111 all out (27.0 overs)

    Trafalgar CC: 112 for 5 (37.2 overs)

Trafalgar CC won by 5 wickets

Man of the Match: Messrs Hughes, Kelly and Lightly between them contributed over half our runs but MOTM has to be Paul for his figures of 7-0-34-4. Despite conceding some early boundaries, he never gave up and his four wickets put us in with a shout at the halfway point.

Champagne Moment: Hard to recall now, but Damien's two enormous sixes put the wind up their bowlers. Uunfortunately, he was the only one...

Comedy Moment: Is it me again? Diving for a tricky catch at short mid-on, completely missing the ball and taking one in the breadbasket for the team. Bruising aplenty. Berk.
